Applied Kinesiology
In 1964, an American chiropractor by the name of George Goodheart, Jr. observed that when tender spots in the leg muscles running from the hip to the knee were massaged, the patient had experienced an increase in muscle strength.

This led him to spend his life looking for other methods that could be used to increase the strength of muscles.  He coined the term "applied kinesiology" because what he was studying was
George Goodheart Invented Applied Kinesiology
the application of the physics of kinesiology, which is simply the study of body motion, movement, and body muscle structure and function.

What is Applied Kinesiology?
Often referred to as AK, this therapy is a way of diagnosing how the body is functioning by using muscle testing. The diagnosis that is gained from AK allows me to best determine what type of therapy will best benefit you. If I find a muscle that seems weak and does not seem to be performing to the best of its ability, I will run tests to determine why the muscle is not performing the way that it should.

Once I have determined why the muscle is not performing up to its expectations, I will then work with you to devise a therapy program that will best help you and will best strengthen the muscle.

Chiropractic Treatments I may use include manipulation of certain joints, Acupressure, myofascial therapies, in addition to exercises such as Static Yoga. There are various reflex therapies that I am familiar with as a kinesiologist that will help improve muscle tone and strength. In addition, as a Manhattan Applied Kinesiologist, I have found that nutrition counseling and diet changes can also aid patients.

Instead of relying on just one facet of wellness, AK uses three different methods. I rely on chemical factors, such as your environment, mental factors, such as your frame of mind, and structural factors, such as the design of your body, in order to determine treatment. Only by taking in all factors that make you who you are, can proper AK techniques be employed.

A Successful Patient Case Study
For example, I had a patient come to me complaining of Fibromyalgia and pains, which were accompanied by depression. By using AK, I was able to determine that he was suffering from a slight scoliosis of the back.

This structural factor caused him to improperly balance his weight, which led to pain in his joints and muscles.

The constant pain he was feeling was taking a toll on his mind. If you add in the fact that he was consuming a large amount of processed foods, which were giving him "sugar rushes" followed by abrupt "crashes," it is easy to see how one small problem was affecting his life. By using Applied Kinesiology Treatments, I was able to cure his problem.
Applied Kinesiology Treatments
There are so many conditions that can be treated using AK, which can easily include, but not be limited to:

It is safe to say that I use some facet of AK in every condition I treat. That is because as an Applied Kinesiologist, I believe that the human body functions together as a whole. If just one part of the body is out of alignment, then all parts of the body suffer.

For example, the deltoid muscles are attached to the lungs. If the deltoid muscle is not functioning in the expected manner, the lungs quit functioning in their expected manner. A weak deltoid muscle can lead to difficulty breathing. By using AK to strengthen the deltoid, I can also strengthen lung function.

Food allergies are another condition that responds well to AK. Often, muscle weakness is attributed to a sensitivity to a certain food. In other words, you may have a slight allergy that you are unaware of. By placing different types of food on your tongue, I can determine if any of these are causing decreased muscle function. In the same manner, I can place different vitamins and nutritional supplements on your tongue and then test your muscles to see which ones actually strengthen your muscles.

Typical treatment using AK consists of you and me sitting down together for an interview. During the course of this interview I will ask you in-depth questions concerning your medical history. I will then do a physical assessment of your body. I will examine your posture, your gait when standing and walking, and will be looking for imbalances.

I will then do muscle testing which will rely on a hands-on, holistic approach. Once I have made my determination, you and I will discuss my findings and your course of treatment. Please contact me for a free consultation.

Patient Testimonials
"Dr. Minond has been using Applied Kinesiology techniques on me for over a year now. I was injured in an automobile accident almost two years ago.

I was lucky to be alive, but I had a broken leg, several broken ribs, whiplash, and a broken hand.

Dr. Minond used his holistic treatments on me to help relieve the pain I was suffering. He was so gentle with me. Somehow, his touch even seemed to relieve the itching I was experiencing from the casts.

There were nights I would cry from the pain until I began seeing Dr. Minond.

He is an expert at AK and I would recommend him to anyone. I see him weekly now and I am so glad I had him to help me through my recovery."
